Occupational First Aid Level 1 Information

Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA Level 1) is a 7-hour program (excluding breaks) designed to provide lifesaving first aid skills to workers in the industry.  Each participant must perform the practical aspects of the course and complete the multiple-choice exam in order to pass the course.

What kind of people should take this course?

The Occupational First Aid Level 1 course (OFA Level 1) is a great class for a variety of different occupations.  We recommend this class for people looking for a job, construction workers, roofers, office workers, retail workers, and anyone who wants to learn more about Occupational First Aid.

Prerequisites for Occupational First Aid Level 1
(OFA Level 1):


Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and be able to understand and perform the first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks.  No previous first aid training is required.

Primary Care First Aid is an Occupational First Aid Training Agency through WorkSafeBC.  Upon successful completion of the course, each participant will receive a fully accredited 3-year certification in Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA Level 1).

The Occupational First Aid Level 1 curriculum includes:

Module 1
-Apply the Priority Action Approach
-Reposition an injured worker
-Describe the roles and responsibilities of a designated first aid attendant
-Conduct a modified primary survey
-Assess soft tissue injuries
-Make appropriate medical referral decisions

-Explain to WorkSafeBC regulatory requirements for first aid record-keeping

 Module 2
-Identify breathing emergencies
-Identify a mild (partial) obstructed airway
-Identify a severe (complete) obstructed airway
-Clearing of an obstructed airway
-Use of a pocket mask

-Perform CPR and the use of an AED

Module 3
-Manage bleeding
-Identify the signs of Anaphylactic shock
-Reposition an injured worker
-Identify common medical emergencies

-Manage common medical emergencies

Module 4

-Practical scenarios

Module 5
-Completion of the written examination, check I.D.
