In late 2024, WorkSafeBC updated its naming standards to align with the rest of Canada. What was previously known as Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA 1) is now officially called Basic First Aid.
While the name is new, the purpose remains the same: it is a fundamental workplace certificate that teaches you how to help people immediately after an accident, a skill you can further explore in our First Aid for Life guide. This course meets the mandatory safety rules for almost every industry in British Columbia.
The goal is to help you make quick, life-saving decisions. You will learn how to keep an injured person stable until a doctor or paramedic arrives. Understanding workplace safety is the best way to protect your team, meet legal requirements, and advance your career.

Master how to stop heavy bleeding and use bandages to prevent infection. You will also learn to assess soft tissue injuries. For more specifics, view our tips on First Aid for burn injuries, or understand the Harm in First Aid to avoid common mistakes.
