The Basic First Aid course from WorkSafeBC has taken the place of the former Occupational First Aid Level 1 training. This comprehensive program is tailored to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge necessary to effectively handle emergencies in the workplace.

Whether you are an experienced professional or new to your career, this training covers vital first aid techniques, including CPR, wound care, and injury assessment. Designed specifically for workplace first aid attendants, this course will instruct you on how to deliver care to adults.

Please note that as of September 1, 2024, the Basic First Aid course will replace the previous Occupational First Aid Level 1 training program.

This course fulfills the requirements set by WorkSafeBC for first aid training in the workplace.

Prerequisites for this course: 

Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and must possess the physical capability to execute all First Aid tasks necessary for completing the learning objectives.

The curriculum includes: 

  • Administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for adults (CPR Level A)
  • Reevaluation of airway, breathing, and circulation (ABC)
  • Outline the duties and obligations of a designated first aid responder
  • The regulatory requirements for first aid documentation as per WorkSafeBC
  • The procedures will adhere to the standards outlined in this manual.
  • Utilization of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Evaluation of soft tissue injuries
  • Clearing blocked airways
  • Instructions for using a pocket mask.

Primary Care First Aid is a First Aid Training Agency through WorkSafeBC. Upon successful completion of the course, each participant will receive a 3-year certification in Basic First Aid.
